This is the beginning of a blog about the world of picture frames…
by The Frame Blog
I hope that this will help to fill the hole where a picture frame website was originally intended to go. I hope to publish interviews with people in the frame world – carvers, gilders, conservators, and picture frame historians – and to review books and exhibitions when they come out. Pieces of research may also be published.
Please contact me if you have something to say about your work on or with frames, if you have news you would like to publish, if you’ve written something to do with frames, or if you have a topic you would like to discuss with someone else in this world.
Dear Lynn,
a very sophisticated web-log you have!
I was surprised to see the interesting items you write about.
hopefully there will be attention to contemporary frame makers in the near future.
Working as a sculptor/woodcarver I have made several frames myself
on a modest scale and invited well known painters to fill this in.
Please be my guest and visit my web-site.
Perhaps you meet the frame I carved for a Ferdinand Bol picture owned by the Rijksmuseum.
Hope to hear from you and good luck. Greatings, Maarten Robert.

Thank you for such a kind comment, Maarten. I remember your talk at the Dresden frame conference; your work is very striking. I would certainly be very interested, if you would like to write an article for me about the frame for the Ferdinand Bol? If you could supply pictures of its progress, and explain how you researched and created the design, I think that it would make a fascinating essay, and – as you say – introduce the work of another contemporary craftsman into The Frame Blog.
I look forward to hearing from you – Lynn

Dear Lynn,
Thank you for tour offer for writing an essay about the sculpted frame for the Rijksmuseum.
I will certainly try to do so!
It will be a very interesting item.
But give me some time.
We keep in touch.
Greetings, Maarten Robert

Splendid! I think an article on this particular frame will be interesting both as work by a contemporary sculptor, and because of the topicality of the re-opening of the Rijksmuseum.
Thank you, & best wishes – Lynn
