What an unbelievable resource! I am an artist and frames have become an obsession as they have such a big effect on the work they provide a home for. Thank you.

Do you have any information about a frame invented by John Edward Robinson in the early 1800s? Likely in England. Thanks!

You will have to give me a few more clues… what sort of frame? on what kind of painting? Do you have a framemaker’s label with Robinson’s details on it? The only Robinson I know for that time in England is mentioned in the records of Criswick & Ryan: see the Directory of British Picture Framemakers on the NPG website [ http://www.npg.org.uk/research/conservation/directory-of-british-framemakers/c.php#CR ]; this is the Samuel Robinson whose stock was acquired by C & R in 1836. Possibly J E Robinson was father or brother of Samuel?
