This auction will be held by Thierry de Maigret at the Hôtel Drouot at 13.30 local time on Friday 17 July. It includes a variety of frames – some fine examples, priced correspondingly, and some more reasonable, workaday frames; see the entire catalogue online here, and in digital book form here.

Lot 75: 18th century French Louis XVI NeoClassical baguette in carved giltwood, with centred spiral ribbon below top edge, and beading at sight edge, in the style of Etienne-Louis Infroit; 34.5 x 49 cm.; estimate €600-800

Lot 220: French Louis XIII ogee frame, second half 17th century, carved in oak with original gilding, with flowered back edge, sprays of florets (primulas) and leaves on the ogee, the ground cross-hatched in the gesso, and flowered sight edge; 50.5 x 41.5 cm., estimate €3-4,000

Lot 223: Baroque Italian 17th century bolection frame (probably Bolognese) in carved limewood, with animated cross-cut acanthus, and a spiral leaf-bound branch at the sight edge; 74.5 x 66 cm., estimate €3-4,000

Lot 226: 18th century British Palladian ‘Kent’ frame carved in pine, with outset corners (one missing), egg-&-dart enriched with florets below the top edge, astragal-&-triple bead, Greek fret enriched with florets in the frieze, with acanthus corners, and acanthus leaf tip sight edge; 84 x 52 cm., estimate €350-450

Lot 258: French Louis XIII convex frame, 17th century, carved in oak, with acanthus leaf and leaf-bud at top edge, hazzling defining the central cavetto, and flowered sight edge; cut and regilded; 83 x 54 cm., estimate €600-800

Lot 303: 17th century Spanish entablature frame, carved in pine, with stepped convex and concave mouldings, and ebonized finish; 46 x 35.5 cm, estimate €1-1,200

Lot 317: late 18th century NeoClassical entablature frame, British or French, carved giltwood, with applied Adamesque undulating olive branch on the frieze and rais-de-coeur at the sight edge; 66 x 52.5 cm., estimate €400-500

Lot 391: Baroque Italian 17th-18th century reverse octagonal frame, with centred imbricated bay leaf torus;  finished with parcel-gilding and faux wood-grain (restored); 102 x 86 cm. overall outer measurement, estimate €700-900

Lot 405: 16th -17th century Spanish architrave frame, carved with shallow-relief centre & corner panels: scrolling foliage and narcissi in the corners, foliate and sunflower centres, parcel-gilt and painted black; 109 x 84 cm., estimate €3-4,000
