Artcurial: sale of antique frames in Paris 2017

…to be held on Tuesday 14th February 2017 (exhibition 10-13 February) by Artcurial. This auction includes frames of various periods and nationalities, and is combined with a group of Old Master drawings, and another of 19th century watercolours. Lots 205 to 208: French Louis XIII and Louis XIV frames, 17th century

Lot 205: a Louis XIV limewood frame, carved and gilded, with continuous foliate C-scroll & leaf bud decoration on the ogee; 92 cm high; estimate €600-800

Lot 206: a Louis XIII carved giltwood oak frame, with a garland of flower-centred, bunched bay leaves & oak leaves, with acanthus leaf corners; 64 x 50 cm; estimate €600-800

Lot 207: an early Louis XIV flower-corner frame; 38.5 x 30.5 cm; estimate €600-800

Lot 208: a mixed group of small Louis XIII and Louis XIV frames of various sizes; estimate €600-800


Lot 2013: French Rococo frame, 18th century

Louis XV Rococo frame, carved giltwood oak, with pierced scrolling foliate & rocaille cabochon corners, asymmetric rocaille centres, and pierced asymmetric leaf & rocaille crest in flamboyant Rococo style; trailing rinceaux (rather less graceful than might be expected); hatched & cross-hatched ground; 44 x 56 cm; estimate €20,000-25,000


Lot 257: French NeoClassical oval frame, 18th century

Louis XVI NeoClassical frame, carved giltwood oak, stamped on the reverse by the framemaker, L. Boussard, rue Cassette, Paris: he was elected maître in 1762; 70 x 57 cm; estimate €600-800

Lot 311: South German/ North Italian tabernacle frame, carved, ebonized & parcel gilt limewood, with fluted columns, lateral niches supported by scrolled modillions holding polychrome figures of SS Henri & Louis; dated 1633 in the predella panel; 58 x 50 cm overall; sight size 33 x 24.5 cm; estimate €7,000-9,000
